Ford ups charger game with Evie partnership

FORD Australia has partnered with electric vehicle charging provider Evie Networks to offer a home charger option for new and existing owners of battery electric vehicles (BEV) including the Ford Mustang Mach-E, E-Transit and plug-in hybrids (PHEV) such as the Escape PHEV.

The partnership comes as Ford readies its dealer network for the incoming Ranger PHEV, E-Transit Custom and Puma Gen-E models, with plans to roll out ‘Authorised EV Dealers’ to more than 100 locations around the country by the end of the year.

Ford’s new ‘EV Charging Package’ is available for order on the company’s website or at one of its authorised EV dealers, at a cost of $2580.

For the money, owners will get a Teltonika Teltocharge 7.4kW single-phase charger and associated hardware, including installation, plus $400 worth of public charging across Evie’s national network of more than 230 fast chargers.

Evie sells a 7kW home charging solution on its website for $1495 including GST, which comes with a $200 public charging voucher. Installation costs from $900 (if the property is within specified metro areas and the electrical system provides for straightforward setup).

The model of charger supplied as part of Evie’s offer is unspecified but appears to be a similar Teltonika product in photos used in Evie promotional materials.

Under the Ford scheme, customers can upgrade the charger to a 22kW model if they have access to three-phase power, and it can also be integrated with existing solar power (both add-ons cost an extra $300 each).

The Ford EV Charging Package also comes with a three-year hardware warranty and two-year installation warranty, supported by Evie Networks.

“When living with an EV, having a home charger installed makes life so simple. You simply drive it each day, and plug it in at home like you would a smartphone,” said Ford Australia general manager of electric vehicles Myles Hartley.

“You get all the benefits of having a fuel bowser in your garage, able to fill up your car cheaply and easily overnight.

“Collaborating with Evie for this package allows Ford customers a stress-free installation process, plus the added benefit of $400 of public charging credit on their massive national public network for when Ford EV owners need to travel interstate in their car.”

The partnership with Evie Networks comes as the infrastructure provider continues to expand its network of fast chargers at retail, government and fleet sites around Australia.

Evie says all its public chargers are powered by 100 per cent renewable energy.

“Partnering with Ford showcases the continuous acceleration and innovation of the EV charging industry, propelling Australia towards a more sustainable automotive future,” said Evie Networks CEO Chris Mills.

“Ford customers can enjoy peace of mind when using our public charging network, which boasts an impressive 97 per cent uptime, with all locations powered entirely by renewable energy.”
