Ford recalls 134 Territory SUVs

UPDATED 08/05/2012 at 2:50PMFORD has issued a recall on a small number of Australian-built Territory SUVs due to a possible fault with the side curtain airbag.

A statement on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) website states that a sensor that triggers the deployment of the airbag may be inadequately secured.

In the event of a side collision, the airbag is at risk of not deploying correctly, increasing the risk of injury.

The campaign affects 134 vehicles built at Ford’s Victorian manufacturing plant in Campbellfield between March 29 and April 26 this year.

However, Ford Australia brand communications manager Neil McDonald told GoAuto that only around 60 of these vehicles are with customers, while the rest remain with dealers.

Mr McDonald said there have been no instances of airbag failure.

Affected customers are being contacted to take their vehicles to a Ford dealer, where an inspection will be made of the side impact sensor to ensure it is adequately tightened.

It is the second recall campaign on the new SZ Territory since its launch in April last year, after 3399 were recalled in August over the risk of a fuel leak due to a possible malfunction of the fuel return pipe.
