CHEVROLET is aiming to sell the Holden-engineered, Canadian-built 2009 Camaro from $US22,000 ($A22,660) in the US, according to one GM source.
This is for the base 3.6-litre V6, but includes a variation of the multi-link independent rear suspension found in the related Holden VE Commodore.
The Camaro's Ford Mustang nemesis kicks off from just under $US20,000 ($A20,600) in the US, but employs a cruder rear-end.
GM also hopes the Camaro expands the muscle car market in America, as well steals sales from the popular Ford.
"We've talked about this at GM and we hope there is a bit of both. The segment is pretty small, but we have a really good entry in there and so we are hoping to steal from Mustang and grow it," said GM's global vehicle line executive, Gene Stefanyshyn.
