CHRYSLER LLC announced last week that it had joined the California Fuel Cell Partnership, becoming the ninth car manufacturer to join the influential group that promotes the commercialisation of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
Among the 34 members in the partnership are energy providers, fuel cell technology companies and government agencies. The other car-makers are Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota and Volkswagen.
"Of the fuel sources on the table for long-term future use in transportation, hydrogen holds the greatest promise," said Chrysler's vice-president of advanced vehicle engineering Mark Chernoby.
"Collaborations such as the California Fuel Cell Partnership will help engineers develop solutions for this technology at an accelerated rate." As reported last week, Chrysler will unveil three new eco-oriented concept vehicles, including a hydrogen-powered concept based on its new-generation Voyager MPV, at next month's Detroit auto show.
