Genesis lobs G80 luxury sedan pricing

LUXURY Hyundai sub-brand Genesis has revealed pricing for its flagship G80 large sedan – previously known as the Hyundai Genesis in Australia – which will touch down in showrooms in June priced from $68,900 plus on-road costs.

 

Like Lexus and Infiniti are to Toyota and Nissan, Genesis is finally launching in Australia as its own standalone marque with the G80 and smaller G70 medium sedan, while the G90 upper-large sedan sold overseas will not be offered here.

 

The G80 will be offered with four different levels of specification, starting with the G80 3.8 and topping out with the 3.8 Ultimate Sport Design at $92,900 plus on-roads.

 

Opening the range, the G80 3.8 comes standard with a 9.2-inch infotainment system with satellite navigation, 17-speaker Harman audio system, wireless smartphone charging, memory driver’s seat and steering wheel adjustment, surround-view monitor, 18-inch alloys, heated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, LED exterior lighting front and back, and, like Hyundai models, an Australia-specific suspension tune with the Genesis Adaptive Control Suspension system.

 

Standard safety equipment across the range includes nine airbags, blind-spot warning, driver attention warning, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, high beam assist, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert and active cruise control with stop and go.

 

Next up is the Sport Design, which adds styling enhancements inside and out for a $4000 premium, bringing its asking price to $72,900.

 

The Sport Design adds 19-inch alloys with dark grey sating finish, dark chrome Genesis Crest grille with dark grey mesh insert, new-look side skirts and front and rear bumpers, Sport Design chrome exhaust tips, dark satin chrome door window frame mouldings and door handle inserts, brushed stainless steel pedal covers and bi-xenon headlights with low-beam assist static halogen globes.

 

Third in the line-up is the Ultimate, which builds on the specification of the base-level model with more luxurious touches, and takes a fair step up in price to $88,900.

 

Standard equipment in the Ultimate over the base 3.8 includes 19-inch hoops, Nappa leather upholstery, suede headlining and trim, smart key, 16-way power driver’s seat with lumbar and side bolstering, four-way adjustable rear seats, heated and ventilated front and outboard rear seats, heated steering wheel, acoustic door glass, panoramic sunroof, rear side window curtains, power boot and door latch, head-up display, 7.0-inch instrument cluster display, extra climate control functions, CO2 sensor and air ioniser, and illuminated front scuff plates.

 

The top-spec Ultimate Sport Design, at $92,900, combines the specification of the Ultimate with the visual enhancements of the Sport Design package.

 

All four variants employ the same powertrain, a normally aspirated 3.8-litre V6 producing 232kW at 6000rpm and 397Nm at 5000rpm, driving the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

 

Nine exterior colours will be on offer, with the choice of three interior trim options.

 

When it arrives, the G80 will compete with the likes of the Lexus GS, as well as the German stalwarts of the large car segment including the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6.
