Haval introduces promotional seven-year warranty

GREAT Wall Motors Australia has introduced driveaway pricing for the Steed ute and a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty for the Haval brand as part of its 2018 plate clearance.
The extended term sees Haval mimic the industry-leading aftersales programs of Kia Motors Australia, MG Motor Australia and SsangYong Australia, and follows Volkswagen Group Australia’s move earlier this week to a promotional five-year/unlimited-kilometre period.
However, Haval’s factory-backed temporary warranty is only available to private buyers, with business, fleet and rental customers instead offered a seven-year/150,000km term.
Haval’s range of SUVs – the small H2, mid-size H6, and large H8 and H9 – are usually covered for a five-year/100,000km period.
Meanwhile, the petrol Steed 4x2 has become the cheapest dual-cab pick-up in Australia, with its price falling by more than $6000, from $25,990 before on-road costs to $19,990 driveaway.
As such, it undercuts its fellow dual-cab challengers, including the petrol JMC Vigus pick-up ($21,990 driveaway), diesel Tata Xenon pick-up ($23,990 driveaway) and diesel Mahindra Genio cab-chassis ($25,490 driveaway).
Significantly, this price point makes the petrol Steed 4x2 eligible for the federal government’s instant capital expenditure tax write-off.
This exemption also applies to the diesel Steed 4x2 in single-cab form, which is temporarily priced from $18,990 driveaway.
It usually checks in at $17,990 before on-road costs but still comes with a free Australian-made aluminium tray.
Opting for the diesel version of Steed 4x2 in dual-cab guise commands a $3000 premium – a saving of more than $5000.
The dual-cab pair comes with a one-tonne payload, anti-skid brakes (ABS), tyre pressure monitoring, a stainless-steel sports bar, side steps, a bedliner, rear parking sensors, six airbags, a power-operated driver’s seat, climate control and no-cost metallic paintwork.
Petrol variants are motivated by a 2.4-litre naturally aspirated engine that produces 100kW of power and 205Nm of torque, while the diesel is 2.0-litre turbocharged unit that develops 110kW and 310Nm.
Unless extended, both of these deals expire on December 31.
Haval’s sales have taken a significant hit this year, with 407 vehicles sold to the end of September – a 26.0 per cent decrease over the 550 deliveries made during the same period in 2017.
Comparatively, Great Wall has managed 518 sales in the first nine months of 2018, which is a massive 61.4 per cent increase over the 321 vehicles that found homes at the same time last year.
