New-look GWM Haval Jolion Hybrid arrives

GWM has announced details for its 2024 Haval Jolion range, which includes a new-look Jolion Hybrid – based on the Chinese market ‘Chitu’ – and a made-over petrol line-up.

 

Drive-away prices have been trimmed by up to $2000, making the entry-spec Jolion cheaper than it was at its launch in 2021. The range now begins from $26,990 drive-away and is visually differentiated between petrol and hybrid variants.

 

Measuring 4470mm in length (-2mm), 1898mm in width (+57mm), and 1625mm in height (+51mm), the Jolion Hybrid rides on a 2700mm wheelbase (unchanged) with multi-link rear suspension in higher grades.

 

The hybrid model’s more rakish roofline result in a reduction in cargo space, down to 255 litres versus 337 litres for petrol models. Braked towing is listed at 1300kg.

 

GWM will continue to offer the Jolion Hybrid in Lux (from $35,990 drive-away) and Ultra (from $38,990 drive-away) grades, and has added a Premium variant to the range, priced from $32,990 drive-away.

 

Standard equipment for the Jolion Hybrid range (and base Jolion Premium petrol) includes 17-inch alloy wheels, cloth upholstery, halogen headlights, keyless entry and ignition, rain-sensing wipers, and a 10.25-inch infotainment array with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

 

Lux and Lux Hybrid grades add a cargo cover, 7.0-inch digital instrument panel, dual-zone climate control, front seat heaters, 12.3-inch infotainment array (Lux Hybrid only), leatherette upholstery and steering wheel, LED headlights, rear privacy glass, and a six-way powered driver’s seat.

 

The top-of-the-range Ultra Hybrid adds four-way powered passenger seat adjustment, head-up display, LED ambient cabin lighting, panoramic sunroof, roof rails, semi-autonomous parking assistance, a ventilated driver’s seat, and a wireless device charging pad.

 

On the petrol side of the range, the Jolion will now be offered in Premium (from $26,990 drive-away) and Lux (from $29,990 drive-away) grades with the Ultra and S variants discontinued. The colour palette has also been reduced.

 

Hamilton White paint is standard (solid), with Artic Blue (Hybrid only), Ayers Grey, Azure Blue (Premium and Lux only), Golden Black, and Mars Red (Premium and Lux only) attracting a $495 surcharge. Smoke Grey and Vivid Green have been dropped from the palette.

 

Visually, the facelifted Jolion petrol is identified by a new grilled, reshaped front and rear bumpers, grey door mirror caps, and new-look tail-lights. Both petrol and hybrid ranges receive a familiar interior, at least in right-hand drive markets.

 

Other improvements across the range include the addition of a four-way adjustable steering column and new ‘Jolion Pro’ tailgate badging.

 

Petrol models measure 4472mm in length, 1841mm in width, and 1574mm in height with an identical wheelbase to the hybrid. Cargo space for petrol models is listed at 337 litres with braked towing capacity at 1500kg.

 

The GWM Haval Jolion received a five-star ANCAP safety rating in 2022.

 

It is equipped with standard safety equipment including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking (with pedestrian and cyclist detection), blind spot monitoring, driver drowsiness detection, lane centring and lane keeping assist, rear cross-traffic alert, reversing camera and rear parking sensors, safe exit warning, traffic sign recognition, tyre pressure monitoring, and seven airbags.

 

Higher specification Lux (and above) grades add 360-degree camera technology while the Ultra Hybrid grade adds front parking sensors.

 

The Jolion’s 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is detuned to 105kW (down 5kW) for 2024 but continues to offer 210Nm of torque. Drive is to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with Combined cycle fuel consumption listed at 8.1 litres per 100km.

 

The turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine is no longer available.

 

Jolion Hybrid variants feature a 1.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor combination providing total system output of 140kW and 375Nm. The unit features a dedicated Hybrid Drive Transmission again driving the front wheels. Fuel efficiency improves to 5.1 litres per 100km (+0.1L/100km)

 

All GWM Haval Jolion models are backed by a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty. Capped price servicing is available for five years with service intervals set at 12 months / 10,000km initially and 12 months / 15,000km thereafter.
