BARINA offers a five-speed manual as standard and a four-speed automatic as an option. The manual is now supported by a hydraulically operated clutch. Holden claims an external shift gate provides additional refinement, de-coupling the gearshift linkage from the driveline, reducing transmission noise and making for more precise gear selection. The automatic is electronically controlled and has a neutral idle feature that selects neutral when the car is stationary and the brake pedal is applied. The system, which automatically shifts back into gear when the brake pedal is released, is designed to provide smoother and quieter idling and improved fuel economy.
