“BAD boys, bad boys, what you gunna do? There’s a Holden Caprice coming for you.”
Thanks in part to Holden’s decision to export its long-wheelbase limousine to the US as the Police Pursuit Vehicle, sporting flashing blue and red lights and wrapped in black-and-white paint, we still have the Caprice on sale here.
However, where the VF Commodore has had a spritz inside and out, the “WN” Caprice’s updates – it replaces the previous WM series – are largely confined to the interior, where it gets the same major overhaul as its short-wheelbase half-cousin.
After the loss of the Statesman nameplate in 2010, there’s even less choice now at the top of the Commodore tree. You can only get a V6 version running on LPG – it is the fuel of choice for corporate taxis, after all – with the only other choice the 6.0-litre V8.
No LPG-fuelled Caprices were available on Holden’s first-drive program, so we were confined to the V8 version.
