UPDATED: 14:30pmHOLDEN has announced a limited-edition VF Commodore that will go on sale next month to celebrate Craig Lowndes’s 20th anniversary in V8 Supercars.

GoAuto understands only about 230 examples of the Craig Lowndes SS V Special Edition Commodore will be produced and it’s believed it won’t get a power upgrade to the 270kW/530Nm 6.0-litre V8 engine.

Pricing for the special-edition Lowndes Commodore will be announced in the coming weeks, but buyers can expect to pay a slight premium on the regular price of the SS V Redline, on which it is based, that starts from $52,490 in six-speed manual form (excluding on-roads).

The commemorative cars will be hand finished, individually numbered and come with special touches including Lowndes badges, plus there’s a framed certificate of authenticity and build plate.

Buyers will also be invited to a private Red Bull Racing function and tour hosted by Craig Lowndes, and they will receive two general admission tickets to a 2015 V8 Supercar round along with a pit garage tour.

The late Australian motorsport legend Peter Brock had Commodores named after him and now the honour has been bestowed on his Holden protégé Craig Lowndes, who said it was a privilege.

“I’ve had a lot of success on the racetrack behind the wheel of Commodores and to celebrate that with this special road-going version is a great privilege,” Mr Lowndes said.

“I know fans and customers all over the country are going to love it.”Craig Lowndes entered the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1994 at the age of 20. At the Bathurst 1000 that year the young driver announced his arrival on the scene by passing Ford hero John Bowe and taking the race lead, surprising the veteran and capturing the public’s attention. From that moment on he became a household name.

For the next two decades he raced for both Holden and Ford, experiencing victory at Bathurst five times, taking out three championship titles and achieving more race wins than any other driver at the top level of Australian motorsport.

The limited-edition cars are available to order from dealers now.
