GM Daewoo on the up

BY TERRY MARTIN | 16th Jun 2006

STRONG export demand for GM Daewoo-built vehicles has enabled the South Korean brand, in which Holden has the biggest shareholding (42 per cent), to raise its 2006 sales target by 100,000 units to 1.6 million units.

Last year it sold 1.15 million vehicles.

Attributed by Reuters to GM Daewoo CEO Nick Reilly, the revised forecast was made as GM Daewoo launched its Winstorm SUV in Korea last week – better known in Australia as Holden’s forthcoming Captiva.

Mr Reilly also said GM planned to sell more than 120,000 Captivas/Winstorms next year, 90 per cent of which will be sold overseas as either a Holden or a Chevrolet.
