THE Holden Jackaroo came of age when the current generation model was introduced in 1992. The first Jackaroos were less than notable for their off-road ability and were nothing special on the road, although to many people they made sense as a relatively inexpensive, relatively capacious station wagon. Today, the Jackaroo stands out among its peers for excellent on-road performance backed by real off-road capability. The former was improved on Monterey models in 1998 with the introduction of an on-tarmac 4WD system to keep pace with its rivals, as well as a more powerful 3.5-litre V6 engine.
