THE Holden Caprice, with its close cousin the Statesman, is Australia’s last locally-built premium long-wheelbase sedan, now that Fairlane is well out of the picture. The reason the Caprice is still carting around our dignitaries and keeping hire-car fleets stocked with local metal is that the car has relatively bountiful export sales numbers to keep the factory stamping them out. If it’s not really selling in big enough numbers to justify its existence in Australia alone, does that mean this car is really redundant in this market?
