AUSTRALIA’S dreamy romance with oil has peaked, helping to cool our love affair with the big car. Enter the Honda City – a car Honda believes will be more representative of future family-car requirements, even if not perhaps the answer to large cars – although Honda is quick to claim City has a bigger boot than Commodore. Honda appears to believe the City is capable of fighting above its light-car class, and its combination of roomy interior and boot and efficient, small-displacement engine might presage a growing market segment in Australia. If it is possible for the Mazda3 to take the number-one sales position from Commodore in January’s figures, who is to say that a car of the City’s ilk could not be the future number-one selling car in Australia?
