HONDA has announced that it will cut the entry-grade, petrol-powered Civic from its 2025 range while introducing a range of new technologies and new, more affordable hybrid-powered variant.
While launch timing and pricing for the newly updated range is yet to be advised, Honda Australia says the 2024 range is now on run-out, with all future grades – excluding the Civic Type R – to be offered exclusively with petrol-electric hybrid running gear.
For 2025, Honda will introduce a new e:HEV L variant to the Civic range, joining the existing e:HEV LX (currently priced from $55,000 drive-away).
Both variants are understood to offer the latest generation of Honda Connect infotainment services, including addition remote controlled features (including remote engine start, cabin preconditioning, and digital key) and Google built-in.
Accessed via a 9.0-inch central touchscreen, the combination allows users access to Google Assistant and Google Maps, and a range of downloadable applications via the Google Play store.
Stylistically, the facelifted Civic sports a new front bumper and grille, and two new pearlescent paint finishes: Seabed Blue and Sonic Grey, the latter exclusive to the e:HEV LX.
“Building on the current strengths of the Civic nameplate, both hybrid grades emphasise a sleek and sporty exterior,” detailed Honda Australia in a statement.
“The refreshed model sees Civic’s sporty styling further enhanced with a new refined front bumper and grille, and improved aerodynamics.”
Honda has not detailed any changes to the Civic’s e:HEV driveline which comprises a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and dual electric motor combination. Total system output for the unit is rated at 135kW and 315Nm.
The front-wheel driven Civic hybrid range features a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with electrical power stored in a lithium-ion battery.
While further specification detail for the incoming Civic e:HEV L is still to be confirmed, it is expected the high-grade e:HEV LX will continue to offer equipment highlights such as a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel, heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, powered front seats, and wireless device charging.
The Civic’s generously equipped Honda Sensing array of safety technologies is understood to carry over into the MY25 line-up, the range also continuing to be backed by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty including capped-price servicing (at $199 annually) and premium roadside assist.
“Over the last 50 years, the iconic Honda Civic has continued to foster a strong customer fanbase in the Australian market,” said Honda Australia vice president and director Carolyn McMahon.
