Honda prices Odyssey from $38,990

The pricing marks an increase over the outgoing model, with the VTi kicking off the range for $3890 more than the previous base Standard variant, while the range-topping VTi-L carries a $4700 premium over the outgoing Luxury it replaces.
The $38,990 opening price matches the base price of its aging rival, the Kia Grand Carnival due for replacement late this year. Citroen's C4 Grand Picasso, also due for a replacement next month, kicks off from $37,490 in base Seduction petrol guise.
Full specifications will be released at the MPV's launch next week, although Honda Australia confirmed the completely redesigned Odyssey will feature daytime running lights, a wide-angle reversing camera and a new state-of-the-art audio system.
As previously reported, the larger fifth-generation people-mover will be available for the first time as both a seven- or eight-seater and will feature one-touch power sliding doors – one door for the VTi and two in the VTi-L - another first for Australian-spec Odyssey.
Powering the new model is a “completely redesigned and reengineered” 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine matched with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that replaces the old five-speed automatic.
Honda says fuel economy has improved by 14 per cent, with official figures of 7.6 litres per 100 kilometres on the combined cycle, down from the outgoing model's 8.9L/100km.
Honda Australia general manager for sales and marketing Carolyn McMahon said the Japanese car-maker was excited about the Odyssey's prospects in the local market.
“The Odyssey is Honda’s most awarded model in Australia and we are thrilled to bring this all-new vehicle to our market,” she said.
