Hyundai Oz finds new home

HYUNDAI Motor Corporation Australia (HMCA) has moved to larger premises.

The South Korean giant's new Australian headquarters, located at Macquarie Park in Sydney, has been designed to accommodate both HMCA’s business operations as well as its training facilities.

Situated at the corner of Lane Cove Road and Hyundai Drive, the relocation is in line with the market growth plans Hyundai envisages for its Australian operations.

“In 2006 Hyundai commenced a review of its future infrastructure needs and concluded its current facility at Homebush Bay (also in Sydney) would not adequately service its growth plans in Australia,” HMCA stated.

The structure is constructed over two levels of basement car parking, and includes warehousing and storage areas. There are two office towers of four and six floors respectively, for a total of 15,000 square-metres of office space.

HMCA already occupies Tower One, which also features a foyer area for showcasing the brand from Lane Cove Road, while the Technical Training facility overlooks Hyundai Drive to the south.

Tower Two is for future growth needs, and will be tenanted until it is required.

Other aspects include a staffed restaurant complete with outdoor seating area, as well as a fully equipped gym.

“PTW Architects were briefed to provide a modern facility that would suit HMCA’s needs for the next (15 to 20) years,” HMCA said.

Described as state-of-the-art, the purpose-built building has already been awarded a 4.5 Green Star Certified Rating by the Green Building Council of Australia.

Special exterior sun shades and awnings were specified by HMCA to achieve this rating, along with solar rated glass to help better-manage the internal environment, solar-powered hot water, a 60,000-litre grey water storage tank to be used within the surrounding garden area, and a 100,000-litre tank that retains storm water.

Construction – by Lucas Stuart Pty Ltd – commenced in early 2007, while the interior was fitted out by TDA Interiors Australia Pty Ltd.

In August, HMCA also relocated its parts distribution partner, Mobis Parts Australia, to a new, 40,000 square-metre warehouse facility at Eastern Creek in western Sydney.
