Hyundai reveals more Kona details

HYUNDAI is continuing to tease its new Kona small SUV by releasing a new front-end image revealing the crossover will sport a fresh front grille and unique split headlight design.

The South Korean brand is calling the new hexagonal grille – which wears the Hyundai brand logo prominently – the Cascading Grille and it will also be adopted across its other models in the future.

While the split headlight design is not new in the small-sized crossover segment – Nissan’s Juke was first to market with this unique feature – the design flourish will be a first for a Hyundai model and contribute to the Kona’s sharp face.

The top section is dedicated to the LED daytime running lamps, while the LED headlights are situated lower and will likely be integrated into the front bumper, which according to Hyundai, “deliver a confident, progressive appearance with sleep and sharp shapes”.

A heavily sculpted bonnet can also be glimpsed in the fresh teaser image, alluding to the Kona’s sporty styling and Gen-Y appeal.

However, Hyundai is also promising the Kona will not forego its SUV status and that its “elevated seating position ensures better visibility for drivers and increases driving comfort”.

As previously reported, the Kona is expected to go on sale in the third quarter of this year, giving Hyundai a contender in the burgeoning small-SUV segment where it will compete against the market-leading Mazda CX-3, as well as the Toyota C-HR, Honda HR-V and Mitsubishi ASX.
