WHILE we had the Isuzu Ute D-Max LS-T on test, the United States and North Korea were on the brink of a nuclear standoff and the French came close to electing a president who promised to further destabilise Europe by following Britain out of the EU.
The Isuzu’s otherwise excellent eight-speaker audio system seemed to deliver nothing but bad news from radio news reports.
From behind the wheel we pondered that should the world descend into chaos, this vehicle with its outstanding reputation for toughness and dependability, top-notch off-road ability and low fuel consumption would be more useful than something flimsier but quieter, more comfortable and more refined.
Perhaps Isuzu should change its marketing from lifestyle and family oriented to something more like Mad Max.
