JAGUAR and Buick have tied as the highest-ranking dependability nameplates in a JD Power and Associates study in the US.
Lexus rated third in the study, ahead of parent company Toyota and Ford sub-brand Mercury.
According to JD Power, the average number of problems reported per 100 vehicles for the overall industry declined this year to 170, 36 fewer than in 2008.
Jaguar and Buick both had a rating of 122 problems per 100 vehicles.
The highest rating individual model was the Lexus LS430 with a rating of 61 problems per 100 vehicles.
The latest JD Power study is being celebrated by Jaguar, whose vehicles have previously been viewed as unreliable.
“Ranking top in the United States' leading survey on vehicle dependability is recognition that Jaguar not only makes the most desirable cars, but now, the most dependable too,” said Jaguar managing director, Mike O’Driscoll.
“And quality and reliability are only a part of Jaguar's new success,” he said.
