THE X-Type is at once recognisable as a Jaguar, however to their credit its designers resisted the temptation to create a scale model of the S-Type sedan. Familiar traits include the sensual bonnet sculpting descending down to the quad headlamps and the "XJ" grille pattern. But this compact car has a character all of its own. SE models have chrome on the grille surround, boot plinth, bumper blades and window surrounds, while Sport models are readily identified with their 17-inch (versus 16-inch) wheels, subtle rear bootlid spoiler and black window surrounds. Twin tailpipes provide a purposeful sign-off at the rear.
