SINCE Jaguar was taken over by Indian automotive giant Tata, the quintessentially English prestige car-maker has been building a resurgent force of new-generation cars, that started with the F-Type sportscar and was followed by the XE sports sedan.

But with the halo sports model and mid-sized luxury sedan segment contenders established, Jaguar has now turned its attention to the large luxury sedan market, where it will have to do battle with the dominant German three.

The all-new XF has lightweight aluminium-intensive architecture, a range of five diesel and petrol engines and the sharp looks to match, but is that enough to find a foothold in one of the most challenging markets?
