TWO small SUV concepts from Jeep, previewed this week ahead of their Frankfurt motor show premieres in September, are the latest indications of the American off-road brand’s compact-car plans.
Jeep’s Compass Rallye and Patriot concepts are further developments of the two-door Compass SUV that appeared at the 2002 Detroit show.
Claimed to broaden the global appeal of the Jeep brand, Compass Rallye is primarily designed to offer fun, performance and fuel efficiency.
Meantime, the Patriot concept is another compact 4WD to rival the likes of Toyota’s RAV4 – but this time featuring all-new Jeep off-road technology to make it "the most capable vehicle in its class".
Expected to be produced in 2007 at DaimlerChrysler’s Belvidere, Illinois, plant, both the Compass soft-roader and the more rugged, "Trail Rated 4x4" Patriot will share a platform with sister brand Dodge’s Caliber small car.
