Jeep expands Wrangler off-road range

AUSSIE off-road enthusiasts got their first look at three new Jeeps at the Melbourne International Motor Show – the redesigned two-door Wrangler, the four-door Wrangler Unlimited and the all-new Compass soft-roader.

The Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited provide a prequel to the brand’s aggressive product offensive, which will see the range grow from four models to seven this year. Wrangler prices start at $30,990 for the two-door.

Although it looks similar to the outgoing model, the Wrangler has been redesigned, gaining improved on-road manners and a new diesel V6 engine. Engine choices will include a new 146kW/315Nm 3.8-litre petrol V6 and a new 130kW/400Nm 2.8-litre common-rail turbo-diesel, both mated to six-speed manual transmissions as standard.

The Wrangler Unlimited has a 523mm-longer wheelbase than the standard model and expands the Jeep experience by allowing off-roading for all the family for the first time – via four doors and a total of 2324 litres of luggage space.

The Compass also makes its mark as the first compact SUV from the iconic four-wheel drive brand to be available with both petrol and turbo-diesel engines. Compass pricing will be announced at its launch next month.
