Wrangler recalled

CHRYSLER Group Australia is recalling 173 examples of its new Jeep Wrangler for a software update. The action is part of a worldwide recall that affects 80,000 Wranglers.

No Australian Dodge Nitros are affected by the recall.

The software problem had the potential to lead to an electrical fault that could cause the engine to stall.

In the US, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration started investigating the Wrangler in May after receiving reports some had stalled.

Chrysler US said one accident is believed to be caused by the glitch, but no injuries were reported. The company said it had received 180 complaints stalling issues from Wrangler and Nitro vehicles in the US.

Chrysler Group Australia said he has not had any reports of Wranglers stalling in Australia.

It said it would be contacting affected owners to have their car’s software upgraded, which was a fast and simple process.
