KIA Motors Australia (KMA) is preparing for a big year in 2009, with the Cerato sedan – unveiled at the Australian International Motor Show last week – arriving early next year, the SUV-styled Soul small car following in March and an all-new Sorento rounding out the new releases late in the year.
KMA product planner Nick Reid said the company had not signed off on pricing for the Cerato but said “a lot of that market happens between $19,000 and $21,000, so we have to be in that range”.
Meanwhile, KMA marketing manager Steve Watts said the Soul “was breaking into a new area”, nominating the shorter and narrower $19,990 Suzuki SX-4 as its closest rival.
The next Sorento will be based on the Santa Fe monocoque platform and will offer both diesel and petrol variants.
