Sydney Lamborghini dealer goes under

LAMBORGHINI has been left lacking representation in Australia’s most populous city as the company that operates its William Street dealer in Sydney has gone into receivership.

Documents filed with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission confirm that receivers were appointed to manage Global Automotive Holdings on October 26.

A statement from Lamborghini head office says the company “understands that Global Automotive Holdings shareholders are experiencing personal and unspecified financial issues”.

The statement distances Automobili Lamborghini from the dealership’s difficulties and says the Italian supercar brand “remains committed to the Australian market customers” through its remaining independent outlets in Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth.

An employee of the stricken Sydney dealership confirmed to GoAuto the outlet had closed its doors for both sales and service.

He said all employees will receive their termination notices tomorrow but could not comment on whether the dealership may be reinstated or the situation facing customers with cars due for delivery.

“I know they are working on something, what it is I do not know,” said the employee.

Two Gallardo sportscars from Lamborghini’s stand at the recent Sydney motor show are reportedly among the assets seized by receivers Hall Chadwick, from which GoAuto is yet to receive a response.

Lamborghini representation in Melbourne was recently taken over by Zagame Automotive, which also has Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lotus, Morgan, Audi and Skoda in its portfolio.

Speaking with Australian media at the Sydney show, Lamborghini commercial director Fintan Knight said a direct relationship with dealers was the company’s preferred mode of operation, with central distributorship arrangements limited to the United States and Chinese markets.
