A NEW Land Rover Discovery has been a long time coming and, generally, the Ford-backed British design is something the company can be proud of. It retains the previous Disco’s off-road mastery, yet is refined, quiet, comfortable and safe on the open road. It’s as technically advanced as the BMW-developed Range Rover, which means it’s the equal of anything else out there, especially in terms of engine efficiency. The interior is big, comfortable and, in top-level versions, capable of seating seven adult passengers where other seven-seaters only offer their back row to small children. And even though at 2.7 tonnes the top-end Discovery is unacceptably heavy, the TDV6 version, in reality, is surprisingly fuel-efficient.
