DESPITE a recent rush of all-new models, Japanese sports and luxury brand Lexus has not ignored its biggest seller, the IS200, which has come in for a series of mid-life upgrades and a substantial price cut at the same time.
All the IS200s drop close to $2000, the base model manual now set at $51,490.
Many of the line-up's changes relate to safety with the IS200 and IS200 Luxury Option now standard with side curtain-shield airbags, frontal collision safety improvements and Brake Assist, electronic brake force distribution.
Lexus is also claiming improved handling for its 2.0-litre, six-cylinder sports model.
Other mechanical changes include the addition of a water-cooled automatic transmission fluid cooler to improve transmission efficiency and potential fuel economy.
Styling changes include new seven-spoke, 16-inch alloy wheels, a three-bar radiator grille, four new exterior colours, new profile side protection moulding and smoked rear combination lamps for dark exterior colours.
Interior changes include a new soft-feel upper portion for the instrument panel, a new look for the air-conditioner control panel and chrome-plated surrounds for the front door audio speakers.
Ivory trim is now available for all IS 200 models and a centre armrest for the driver and front passenger, which includes provision for two front and two rear-seat cupholders.
An air-conditioning upgrade includes the addition of a dust/pollen filter. The IS 200 Luxury Option model has the additional feature of a leather gear lever knob - for both manual and automatic.
