Lexus gives flagship LX570 S a visual tweak
AS THE end of the line draws nearer for the aging 200 Series LandCruiser, Lexus has injected some extra lip filler into the front end of its flagship LX570 S for the 2021 model year in the form of a new front bumper.
Described by Lexus as raising the LandCruiser-based luxury SUV’s “sophistication”, the top-spec LX has been treated to a new front bumper, bespoke new radiator grille and redesigned alloy wheels to help set it apart from the rest of the LX range.
Said to result in a more formal yet sportier look, the grille features 70 gloss-black ‘blocks’ rather than the old spindle design to “create an impression of powerful forward movement” with all of the blocks being oriented towards the central badge.
The texture also helps bring the top-spec LX more into line with the RX Sports Luxury, resulting in more styling consistency across the large SUV offerings.
The new 21-inch alloy wheels meanwhile usher in a new two-tone finish to match those of the LC500 GT car, again helping to seemingly unify the Lexus range.
Given there have been no changes to the LX range’s standard equipment lists, Lexus has fittingly left the prices untouched for the new model year.
As such, the entry-level LX450d still retails for $137,636 plus on-road costs and continues on as the only diesel-powered offering in the range.
The diesel mill in question is the same twin-turbocharged 4.5-litre V8 as found in the 200 Series LandCruiser, still developing 200kW/650Nm and still hooked up to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Above that remains the $146,636 LX570 which swaps out the oil-burning bent-eight for a bigger 5.7-litre petrol unit – developing 270kW/530Nm – and adds a heap more standard kit to the equation as well as two extra gears.
Finally, the facelifted LX570 S sits at the top of the range priced from $168,767, which as its name suggests, features the same 5.7-litre powerplant as the regular LX570.
According to Lexus Australia chief executive Scott Thompson, the facelifted flagship provides a stylish option for luxury customers looking for a sportier LX.
“The LX is our most popular L Series model thanks to its combination of maximum luxury, incredible capability and renowned Lexus care with the industry-leading Encore Platinum owner benefits program as standard,” he said.
“The new-look LX 570S further broadens the appeal of this flagship luxury SUV with sporty, yet subtle design touches and a focus on enhancing its urban appeal.”
Lexus Australia has sold 52 LXs so far this year ending February, accounting for 8.6 per cent of the $100,000+ upper-large SUV segment.
