SINCE its first model rolled out on Australian roads almost a quarter of a century ago, Lexus has gone from an unknown Japanese brand to a respected builder of high-end luxury vehicles, with an impeccable customer satisfaction record.

But with large luxury sedans and limos mastered, the car-maker is now turning its attention to a younger, more sports model-focused customer that it has previously only flirted with.

The introduction of the RC350 heralded the return of a V6-powered coupe for the brand in late 2014 but it was followed by this – the hammer-blow RC F.

With its mighty naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8, a striking coupe road presence and the same ownership experience that forged Lexus' reputation, can the Japanese company finally have a crack at the German ultra coupes?
