THE fourth-generation Ford Mondeo has been a long time coming. So long in fact that it is more than three years since we saw the design wearing Fusion badges at the 2012 Detroit motor show.

In that time some quality mid-size contenders have entered the ring, notably the Mazda6, as well as the Subaru Liberty and Hyundai Sonata, and there are more on the way – including the new-generation Volkswagen Passat.

Ford has upped the safety technology, specification and performance of Mondeo and is pushing a more premium angle too.
