Mazda releases 100th Anniversary S.E details
MAZDA has revealed the availability and most of the pricing of its upcoming 100th Anniversary Special Edition Series, a range which will be limited to just 700 cars across 12 different models.
Based on higher tier variants of the respective models, the Special Edition Series will be adorned exclusively with ‘Snowflake White Pearl Mica’ exterior paint and brandish unique burgundy interiors in a nod to the brand’s first ever passenger car, the R360 Coupe.
Kicking off the range will be the Mazda2 – one of four models not yet priced – of which just 20 examples will be offered compared to the 70 examples of the CX-3 compact SUV.
80 Special Edition Series Mazda3s will be offered, of which 25 will be sedans while the remaining 55 will be hatches, both priced from $40,090 plus on-road costs.
Just like its smaller sibling, the CX-30’s pricetag is also yet to be released however we do know that 100 of the small SUVs will be included in the Series.
The MX-5 is also represented in the range by just 10 soft-tops ($45,320) and 10 RFs ($49,400) with the soft-top set to offer the added incentive of a burgundy roof to match is interior.
15 Mazda6 sedans will be offered from $51,390 apiece while the wagon version ($52,690) takes the gong as the most exclusive car in the range with just five examples set to make it here.
Rather fittingly of its segment, the CX-5 mid-sized SUV will be the most abundant offering with 250 examples set to retail from $52,330.
Jumping up the to the large SUV segment, 30 CX-8s will be available from $66,940 and 110 CX-9s, the final model yet to have its pricing revealed.
Compared to their respective range toppers, the Special Edition Series cars carry a $1500 price premium, including the MX-5s which are only being offered in manual guise.
As for the four models yet to be officially priced, GoAuto understands that they will most likely follow the same trend as the rest of the series and be priced around $1500 upstream of their ‘regular’ top tier variants.
According to Mazda Australia director of sales Jarrod Gieschen, the Special Edition Series represents a piece of Mazda’s history with all models able to be classed as future collector’s items.

“We’re grateful to have a loyal and passionate customer base in Australia and to say thank you, we’ll be offering those that register their interest the first opportunity to secure their vehicle order.
“The vehicles will look elegant and striking on the road today, and serve as a proud Mazda collector’s item tomorrow.”
More than just an honourable colour-scheme, the Special Edition Series cars will also brandish unique ‘100 years 1920-2020’ badging on their front wings and floor mats as well as an exclusive 100th Anniversary Logo embossed on the seat headrest, key fob and hubcaps.
While the Series has not yet hit showrooms, Mazda has encouraged prospective buyers to register their interest via its website ahead of deliveries later this year.
Like most mainstream manufacturers this year, Mazda has struggled in the face of the declining new car market, experiencing a 34 per cent sales dip through the first five months of the year (29,427) compared to the same period last year when it managed 44,565 sales.
Despite the downturn, it managed to secure second place on the sales chart last month with 5661 sales, equating to a 9.5 per cent market share.
