THE Mazda Millenia was crash tested (frontal offset) by the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in 1996 in left-hand drive form which gave it an overall "acceptable" (or three-star) rating. It rated "good" in most areas of the crash test, however the overall structure received a "marginal" rating and footwell intrusion contributed to the likelihood of left leg injury (rated "poor" in this area). The dummy's right leg also finished trapped at the heel in the buckled floor. Minor safety improvements since then could have increased the performance of the vehicle.
