THE MX-5's 1.8 litre, twin camshaft, 16-valve, four-cylinder engine now has sequential valve timing (S-VT), which lifts power output from 106kW at 6500rpm to 113kW at 7000rpm, while torque is lifted from 165Nm at 4500rpm to 181Nm at 5000rpm. The S-VT mechanism optimises the open/close timing of the intake valves from low to high rpm ranges while the improved intake/exhaust system provides smoother acceleration to high rpm.
