ON THE face of it, four-seat soft-top sportscars are riddled with compromise. Losing the roof may let in the sun and the sea breeze, but it brings forth a host of other issues around rigidity and weight that is the antithesis of a brand like Mercedes-AMG.

On the flip side, though, it also presents a golden opportunity for the company to let their freak flag flutter a little bit, and produce a car that is all about the show, and which just happens to go as well.

The new – and first ever – C63 S Cabriolet is such a beast. It’s heavier, softer and more expensive than its three other stablemates, but in some ways it makes the perfect statement for Merc’s successful sub-brand.
