Mercedes-Benz axes A-Class sedan
MERCEDES-BENZ has axed its slow-selling A-Class sedan announcing an end to orders in Australia.
While the A-Class hatch – and remaining dealer stock of the A-Class sedan – remains available, the premium Small segment passenger model is now consigned to the history books, with no replacement in sight.
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan (from $61,900 plus on-road costs) was available in A 200, A 250, and AMG A35 grades, the A 250e plug-in hybrid cut from the range back in 2022.
It is not known how many examples of each trim grade remain in dealer stocks.
The A-Class now joins the B-Class in being chopped from the Mercedes-Benz small car portfolio, that model cut from the range in 2023.

“We can confirm that the A-Class sedan can currently be ordered from existing stock in Australia, built-to-order has been closed,” a Mercedes-Benz Australia spokesperson told Australian media.
“The A-Class hatch is still available for factory- and stock order.”
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan has failed to ignite customer interest since its introduction in 2019 and is outsold by a factor of two-to-one by its hatchback sibling.
Sales data shows Mercedes-Benz sold just 715 of the A-Class sedan locally in 2024 alongside 1282 hatch variants.
Other compact petrol model sales for the three-pointed star brand are more favourable with 757 CLA-Class sedans, 3103 GLA-Class SUVs and 1243 GLB-Class SUVs sold across the 2024 calendar year.
Mercedes-Benz EQA and EQB electric SUV sales tallied 1044 and 504 units respectively for the same period.
In the A-Class’ home segment (Small passenger over $40K) we find the fully electric MG 4 on the top rung with total 2024 calendar year sales of 6934 units. It was tailed by the Volkswagen Golf (2929), related Audi A3 (2375), and Subaru WRX (2188).
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class (sedan and hatch combined) placed fifth with 1997 unit sales.
Rounding out the segment we find the BMW 1 Series (1297 unit sales), GWM Ora (1225), Honda Civic (966), BMW 2 Series GranCoupe (555), Cupra Born (465), Nissan Leaf (357), Cupra Leon (347), Mini Clubman (174), and Peugeot 308 (150).
