GERMAN luxury brand Mercedes-Benz is about to launch glow-in-the-dark three-pointed star badges for the cars it sells in Australia.

The car-maker confirmed that it would add the LED back-lit badges – already launched in other markets worldwide – to the Australian options list after the success of the program in the US.

There, the illuminated badges are available on select models including the new E-Class, the M-Class, GL-Class and CLS-Class sedans.

The car-maker is even able to retrofit the glowing badge to some vehicles sold in the US.

Mercedes-Benz Australia corporate communications manager Jerry Stamoulis confirmed the new must-have signature’s arrival.

“We will be introducing the accessory to Australia in the coming months,” he said. “Pricing and other specific information will be confirmed closer to the accessory's availability date.”The back-lit star, which uses a light conductor drawing off LEDS costs $US480, jumping up to $US550 installed.

According to Mercedes-Benz, it will have glow-in-the-dark badges available for other models “soon”.
