Mercedes carves $13k from last batch of C63 AMGs

The price adjustment drops the cost of membership to AMG’s 373kW club to $159,507 plus on-road costs – slightly cheaper than the $166,900 asking price for the all-new BMW M4 coupe that launches in Australia this week.
The brutally powerful German-built two-door is now the only option for cashed-up performance-car buyers wanting to get into a W204-series C63 AMG, with all of the Edition 507 sedans and wagons that launched late last year sold out.
When Mercedes launched the Edition 507 in October last year, pricing was set at $169,407 for the sedan, $171,407 for the wagon and $172,407 for the coupe.
The reduced price of $159,507 makes the Edition 507 coupe slightly pricier than the 4.2-litre V8 Audi RS5, which starts from $155,900, while slightly undercutting the all-new twin-turbo in-line 3.0-litre six-cylinder BMW M4 coupe.
Lurking under the bonnet is AMG’s 6.2-litre V8 engine producing 373kW at 6800rpm and 610Nm at 5200rpm, which is a 37kW/10Nm boost in performance over what was the standard C63 AMG.
As reported at launch, Mercedes also made changes under the skin, with weight-saving measures such as the boost in power improving the 0-100km/h sprint time by 0.2 seconds over the regular model to 4.2 seconds.
It gained forged pistons from the SLS AMG supercar, new connecting rods, a lightweight crankshaft and a revised engine control system over the standard car.
The Edition 507 carries styling cues to differentiate it from the regular C63 AMG, including a bonnet borrowed from the limited-edition Black Series, darkened styling and new 19-inch light alloy cross-spoke wheels.
Meanwhile, production of the W204 C-Class sedan and Estate wagon officially ended yesterday at the luxury car-maker’s Sindelfingen, Germany plant, with the factory closing after 42 years of operation.
Mercedes-Benz confirmed that the W204 coupe would continue to be built at the plant, and would sell alongside the new C-Class sedan and Estate until Mercedes-Benz switched production to the new version of the two-door model.
Timing is yet to be confirmed for the next-gen coupe, but the new C-Class sedan arrives in local Mercedes showrooms in August, with the Estate following in December.
The first of the W205 C63 AMGs will arrive in sedan form midway through next year, with launch timing for an Estate version yet to be confirmed.
The W205 C-Class, which was revealed at the Detroit motor show early this year in sedan guise, will be produced at a number of the company’s factories, including Germany, South Africa, China and the US.
