Mercedes issues C-Class fuel pump recall

MERCEDES-BENZ Australia Pacific (MBAP) has issued a safety recall for more than 800 new-generation W205 C-Class vehicles that might stall due to a potential fuel-pump fault.

According to an official recall notice on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission website, the problem relates to the in-tank fuel feed pump that might detach from its mounting, causing the vehicle to stall.

The recall applies to the first batch of new-model stock that arrived in showrooms in August last year. According to MBAP, the 873 vehicles were mostly delivered to customers over the first two months, through August and September.

GoAuto understands the first batch of C-Class production was restricted to four-cylinder petrol and diesel vehicles.

The new C-Class is imported from Mercedes’ plant in South Africa, although some of the initial cars in Australia were made in Germany.

MBPA says it will send letters to all owners of affected vehicles advising the course of action on repairs of the fuel pump mount.

It is the second recall on the new-generation C-Class. In March, 161 diesel C200s were called back to dealer service centres to reprogram faulty engine management software that might cause the engine to stall.
