THE three-pointed star badge is steeped in history and a long line of iconic models have paved the way to Mercedes-Benz’s success today, but few can claim to be as longstanding or influential as the formidable SL.

Since the model first elegantly rolled into the range in the 1950s, the SL badge has served as an unmistakable flag bearer of luxury, performance and uncompromising style and it is still going strong today.

But with a convertible version of the potent Mercedes-AMG GT on the way is there room for two large, rear-drive, front-engined, convertible sportscars in the Benz fold?

A facelift of the range brought a little extra kit for all variants including the relatively new V6 SL400 variant and its sharper price means it could just be the smart choice.
