Price cut for MG 3 already

MG Motor Australia appears to have been blind-sided by Suzuki in comparative pricing between each brand’s new tiddler-size offerings: the MG 3 petrol and hybrid and the Suzuki Swift hybrid.

Just a few weeks after launching, the Chinese manufacturer has engaged in “blitz marketing” the newcomer until the end of the financial year offering sizeable discounts of up to $2000 through a drive-away pricing deal.

The deal sees new gen’ MG 3 petrol models now available from $24,990 drive-away.

The blitz appears to target combative Suzuki Swift Hybrid pricing that starts at $24,490 drive-away.

In early June, MG Motor launched the new generation MG 3 from $23,990 for the 1.5 Excite, $25,990 for the Essence and from $27,990 for the Excite 1.5 Hybrid and $29,990 for the Essence 1.5 Hybrid, all excluding on-road costs.

It represented a hefty $5000 hike, not including on-road costs, over the previous petrol-only model.

The drive-away offer on new gen’ petrol models essentially means MG Motor added a grand to the price of its ICE powered MG3 and then made them drive away (nationally).

It equates to as much as $2000 off the model when you factor in stamp duty, rego charges, dealer delivery and any other extraneous costs or levies.

Nothing has changed to MG 3 Hybrid pricing at the moment but given Suzuki’s astounding Swift Hybrid drive away deal right from launch, MG Motor may be forced to extend its latest drive away pricing deal on petrol MG3 and include the Hybrid models.

However, an ace up the Chinese manufacturer’s sleeve is considerable stock of the superseded MG 3 petrol that is available from $18,990 drive-away with MG stating it has stock to cover until the end of the year.

It provides a circuit breaker to potential buyer resistance to the higher pricing schedule of the new MG 3.

MG Motor is couching the drive away deal on new gen’ MG 3 as an end of financial year opportunity saying in a statement, “The end of financial year is traditionally a time for deals. MG has once again made a bold move toward affordability in a bid to make technology and safety packed petrol hatchbacks more accessible to all”.

The national sales manager for MG Motor Australia Brad Chruszcz said, “This strategic price adjustment ensures all buyers can enjoy the lower entry point and get into a car that’s been designed and built from the ground up but shares nothing in common with the outgoing variant.”

“Customers like choice and we want them to be empowered to have the freedom to drive an affordable hatch,” he added.

“We’re excited to introduce a compelling drive away campaign providing an opportunity for customers to get behind the wheel of the next generation all-new MG 3 from just $24,990 drive-away for Excite and $26,990 for Essence just in the nick of time before end of financial year.

“A lot of our customers want to take advantage of the asset write-offs with the government, we have plenty of stock ready to be delivered.

“We are dedicated to providing the best value possible and have gone one step further by also including Brighton Blue Metallic paint on the MG 3 petrol variants for a limited time. It is our most popular colour, and we want people to enjoy it for no additional cost,” he continued.

“We want people to experience the all-new petrol MG 3 and this provides an additional incentive to do it. It is a car that people know and love, we know that.

“The real kicker is that the all-new model has nothing in common with the outgoing model aside from the nameplate. It has been completely designed and built from the ground up in terms of design, safety, technology and finish.

“Our customers come first and with that in mind if a person has already taken delivery, they will be eligible for a rebate taking into consideration the new campaign,” he concluded.
