ALTHOUGH promised soon after the 1997 launch, it took three years to get steering wheel adjustment for reach and height. The 2000 model year also brought electric adjustment of the heated door mirrors, replacing the paddles found at the base of each front pillar. Access to the power window switches is restricted by the gear lever and the windows themselves do not have a one-touch "automatic down" function. The windscreen wiper stalk is an awkward twist and turn system and wipers do not automatically activate when you spray cleaning fluid on the glass. The tight cockpit forces many drivers to place the seat back as far as possible to operate the pedal properly and the wide centre console tends to force the left leg of many drivers into an angle that renders the footrest useless.
