Mini ups standard equipment on Hatch and 5-Door

MINI is giving customers more value-for-money in its Hatch and 5-Door models by upping standard equipment for its Cooper and Cooper S variants at no extra cost, while also adding new tech-orientated option packages.

From June, mid-tier Cooper variants gain halogen foglights as standard, while retaining the same $26,650, before on-roads cost, price for the 3-door Hatch and $27,750 for the 5-Door.

Existing standard features include cruise control, speed-sensitive steering, 15-inch alloy wheels, leather-clad steering wheel, automatic headlights and Bluetooth smartphone connectivity.

All Cooper variants are powered by a 100kW/220Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, with a six-speed automatic transmission available as a $2350 option.

A new Multimedia Essentials pack can also be optioned on Cooper variants for an additional $1500, which adds satellite navigation, front armrest with snap-in charger compatibility, Bluetooth and USB audio streaming, reversing camera and a visual boost for the Mini radio.

The new optional package can also be paired with a Pepper pack – usually $3000 on its own – adding 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, white indicators, ambient interior lighting and additional storage compartments for an extra $2000, with a combined total price of $3500 for both packs.

Opting for the Multimedia Essentials pack grants access to the Convenience pack for $1800 and includes keyless entry, an alarm system, front and rear parking sensors, and automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors.

Moving up to the Cooper S, Mini has added LED headlights, daytime running lights and front foglights, as well as a reversing camera at no extra cost.

Manual Cooper S variants start at $37,750 for the Hatch body shape and $38,850 for the 5-Door, while an optional automatic transmission adds an additional $2350 to the price.

Along with a peppier 141kW/280Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, as standard the Cooper S also has Bluetooth connectivity, visual boost radio, satellite navigation, rear parking sensors, drive mode select, automatic headlights and front sports seats.

Cooper S variants also get access to the same Convenience pack as the Cooper, adding keyless entry and alarm system, front parking sensors and automatic dimming interior and exterior mirrors for $1800.

A $1500 Control pack adds tyre pressure monitoring, adaptive LED headlights, and camera assisted cruise control, forward collision warning, city crash mitigation and high beam assist.

While the Mini Hatch (3-Door and 5-Door) remains the sales leader in the premium micro car segment with 1028 units sold in the first five months of the year, purchases have dropped 3.2 per cent over the same period in 2015.
