MAGNA'S refined and powerful 3.5-litre quad cam alloy V6 has received a number of modifications for employment in the Ralliart Magna. Boosting peak power to 180kW from the previous benchmark of 163kW offered in Sport and VR-X variants, changes include a new cylinder head, increased compression ratio from 9.0:1 to 9.4:1 (any higher would have necessitated the use of premium unleaded fuel), a 10 per cent higher lift camshaft, high-lift valve springs, anodised piston crowns and top compression rings, revised engine management calibration and a set of stainless steel exhaust headers. There is also a sports exhaust that is said to improve the mid to high rpm exhaust note. Power and torque have risen as a result of the enhancements, up 10 per cent and five per cent respectively to 180kW at 5500rpm and 333Nm at 4000rpm. Mitsubishi claims the Ralliart Magna can accelerate to 100km/h in 6.71 seconds for the manual version and 7.15 seconds for the auto - times that would have it seeing off both eight-cylinder and supercharged versions of the competition. At the same time, the manual returns combined city/highway fuel figures of just 12 litres per 100km.
