FORD FALCON 4D SEDAN (1989-1991)
IN EA Series II form the Falcon solved many of the problems that afflicted the original EA. The Ford is bigger than its rivals with comfortable five-seat capacity. The 4.0-litre, six-cylinder engine provides effortless highway performance and good towing ability.

HOLDEN COMMODORE 4D SEDAN (1988-1991)
ALMOST as roomy as a Falcon, the VN Commodore adopted the pushrod 3.8-litre V6 engine developed in the US. It has proven to be strong on both torque and economy, if not anywhere near as smooth as the Nissan engine used previously in the VL. Driveline vibrations developed with age and can afflict even later models.

NISSAN SKYLINE 4D SEDAN (1988-1990)
THE Australian-built Skyline won the 1986 Car Of The Year Award and is narrow bodied compared to the Magna, Falcon and Commodore. Skyline's strong point is the 3.0-litre, overhead camshaft engine that was shared by the VL Commodore, which proved to be smooth, powerful, economical and reliable.

TOYOTA CAMRY 4D SEDAN (1989-1991)
TOYOTA's original medium-size, front-wheel drive Camry is well regarded as a reliable and durable family car, if a little plain. Twin camshaft, multi-valve, fuel-injected, 2.0-litre engine provides respectable performance with good fuel economy. An imported model using an automatic-only 2.5-litre V6 was also available.
