Update arrives for Mitsubishi Pajero

MITSUBISHI has upgraded its Pajero range with a boost in standard specification, while simplifying the line-up of its ageing large SUV.

Although the price of the entry-level Pajero GLX remains unchanged at $50,990, plus on-road costs, the base variant now receives 18-inch wheels, LED daytime running lights, chrome accents, front mud guards, front fog-lights, HID headlights, a rear locking differential and reversing camera as standard.

In an effort to simplify the Pajero range, Mitsubishi has scrapped the GLX-R and mid-range VRX in favour of the Pajero GLS. Priced between the two outgoing models at $58,990, the Pajero GLS comes equipped with a plethora of upgrades from the base GLX model, including rain-sensing wipers, satellite navigation and heated front seats.

The top-spec Pajero Exceed gets a sizeable $8000 price drop from $73,990 down to $65,990, while still picking up an electronic sunroof, leather steering wheel, premium audio system and automatically adjusting high beams, which is a first for the Pajero.

All three variants offer seating for seven occupants.

Furthermore, the entire Pajero range will see an increase in occupant comfort thanks to a reduction in noise, vibration and hardness (NVH) levels due to increased sound deadening throughout the vehicle.

To keep the eight-year old off-roader fresh, Mitsubishi has given the Pajero a revised front bumper design with a chrome radiator grille and an updated spare tyre cover.

Engine options across the Pajero range remain unchanged, with all variants powered by a 3.2-litre common-rail turbo-diesel.

The added value might boost interest in the Pajero after Mitsubishi managed to sell 210 units last month, a drop of 72.5% over the results from August last year. Year to date the high-riding wagon is down by 20 per cent, with 3425 sales to the end of August, compared with 4275 last year.

The Pajero comes with Mitsubishi's 5 year/100,000km warranty and is on sale now.
