Mitsubishi adds Triton GLX-R variant

BY MATT BROGAN | 2nd Oct 2024

MITSUBISHI Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) has announced minor running changes to its Triton light commercial utility range.

Importantly, the MY24.5 revision returns the popular GLX-R grade to the Triton line-up, the variant adding what MMAL says is a “distinct visual identity and value-packed specification list”.

In showrooms this month, the GLX based Triton GLX-R (from $56,740 plus on-road costs) is available in dual-cab body style and with a six-speed automatic transmission and Super Select II four-wheel drive and as standard, the latter including the Drive Mode Terrain Control System as found in higher grade GLS and GLR variants.

Additionally, the GLX-R receives the ‘standard duty’ suspension configuration offered on higher grades.

According to MMAL, the configuration comprises a high-mounted upper wishbone arrangement at the front paired with 36mm shock absorber cylinders to offer improved control. At the rear, three high tensile leaves enable the GLX-R to deliver “a comfortable ride in laden and unladen driving situations”.

As expected from the GLX-R grade, we find black-toned alloy wheels in 18-inch diameter and shod with highway terrain tyres, a black-toned sports bar, leather-wrapped steering wheel, fully carpeted floor, exterior door-side body mouldings, and sidestep deletion for a cleaner look.

The GLX-R variant joins MY24.5 running changes that includes tailgate assist on GLS and GSR grades.

“All-New Triton has delivered on its promise: It is the best Triton we have ever offered,” said MMAL chief executive officer Shaun Westcott.

“We have also taken on feedback from customers, media and most importantly the dealer network. The result is an enhanced model range and improved specification that we have been able to rapidly bring to market.

“The GLX-R has always represented great value for money and this latest iteration has high visual appeal and true all-round capability.”

The Mitsubishi Triton range remains backed by MMAL’s segment leading ‘10/10’ warranty and capped-price servicing bundle, with all Triton grades covered by up to 10 years or 200,000km of manufacturer warranty.
