Super Select for Triton

MITSUBISHI Motors Australia has announced a transmission upgrade for most diesel versions of its Triton utility, which will be fitted with the “Super Select” four-wheel drive system from its Pajero SUV progressively by December.

Triton’s existing Easy Select part-time four-wheel drive will continue to be fitted to GLX 4x4 and all petrol 4x4 Triton variants, but will be replaced by Super Select on diesel VR, GLX-R and GLS versions of the Triton.

As in the Pajero, it allows drivers to select between four driving modes: Two-wheel drive high range (2H) for general commuting or highway touring Full-time four-wheel drive high range (4H) for added traction in inclement weather or on rough roads Four-wheel drive high range with locked centre differential (4HLC) for bush tracks and four-wheel drive low range with locked centre differential (4LLC) for extreme off-roading.

The first three driving modes can be selected on the fly and a rear differential lock is available as an option.

Mitsubishi says the fitment of its Super Select four-wheel drive system gives the Triton with a distinct advantage over its direct competitors, “who continue to offer traditional part-time four-wheel drive systems across their 4x4 utility ranges”.
