NISSAN Australia has released a limited-edition version of its Navara dual-cab pick-up, dubbed the N-Sport Black Edition, with just 500 examples on offer Down Under.
Based on the top-spec ST-X dual-cab 4x4 model grade, the N-Sport Black Edition is priced from $54,490 plus on-road costs for the six-speed manual, while the seven-speed automatic starts at $56,990.
Attracting a $2000 premium over the ST-X, the N-Sport Black Edition adds a number of visual highlights and Nissan accessories to differentiate it from its donor variant.
It is the priciest Navara on offer and is likely to appeal to a similar buyer as the kitted out Holden Colorado Z71, Ford’s Ranger Wildtrak and the Toyota HiLux TRD.
The Black Edition adds a black sports bar and nudge bar, a fitted LED light bar, bulky black wheelarch flares, 18-inch black alloy rims, black gloss honeycomb grille, smoky chrome foglight finishers, soft black tonneau cover, N-Sport badging and Black Edition decals.
Nissan is offering the N-Sport in four different hues – Cosmic Black, Slate Grey, Brilliant Silver and Diamond White.
In July last year Nissan released an N-Sport-fettled Navara, which featured similar styling tweaks without the Black colour theme, nudge bar and wheelarch flares. It too commanded a $2000 premium over the variant on which it was based.
No changes have been made to the ST-X’s 2.3-litre twin-turbo diesel powerplant, which still pumps out 140kW of power and 450Nm of torque.
Nissan Australia managing director Richard Emery said the Black Edition would appeal to local pick-up buyers.
“The N-Sport Black Edition gives the Navara a tough looking make over,” he said.
“Black is all the rage at the moment and certainly makes the Nissan Navara ST-X Dual Cab stand out.
“With its aggressive but stylish look, and limited numbers, we think this will be a popular variant for ute buyers.”To the end of July Nissan has sold 8098 examples of the 4x4 Navara, down 5.9 per cent on the 8603 it sold to the same point last year.
The Navara trails segment leaders such as the Ford Ranger (21,190), Toyota HiLux (19,942), Mitsubishi Triton (11,642) and Holden Colorado (10,708), but is ahead of the likes of the Isuzu D-Max (6981), Mazda BT-50 (5453) and Volkswagen Amarok (4890).
